At the end of June 2026, we heard from Lisa Christie (Delahunty, OL 1988), who was recovering from a hip replacement at Epworth Rehabilitation, Camberwell. To her complete delight, she discovered that her neighbour in the next room was none other than fellow Old Lauristonian Susie McMinn (Mitchell, OL 1973), who was also undergoing rehabilitation following a hip replacement!

Although they graduated from Lauriston 15 years apart and had never previously crossed paths, they quickly formed a firm friendship after their chance meeting at Epworth.

As they got to know one another, the similarities kept piling up. Not only do they share the special bond of being Old Lauristonians, they also:

  • Clicked immediately.
  • Had both undergone RIGHT hip replacements.
  • Had brothers who attended Melbourne Grammar School.
  • Each have a son who attended Wesley College, Glen Waverley.
  • Discovered numerous mutual connections, many through Lauriston.
  • Wore pearl earrings.
  • Arrived with the same tracksuit and agreed that, without the red stripe, it could almost pass for a Lauriston tracksuit!
  • Spent hours reminiscing and sharing their Lauriston memories.

Their story is a wonderful reminder that when Lauriston girls meet, a shared connection is never far away, and lifelong friendships can be formed in the most unexpected places.
